Lares Trek - Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 Days 3 Nights

The trek in the Lares area is a very good alternative for those who want to get to know local village communities surrounded by impressive mountain landscapes, with lagoons and valleys, through picturesque and traditional villages.

All that combined with a hike on an Inca trail to Machu Picchu (day 3) and on the last day of the tour (day 4) the visit of Machu Picchu takes place.

Cusco - Calca - Lares - Huaca Wasi

Around 1:00 p.m., the transport takes us from Cusco via the Huaca Wasi Pass (4,400 m.a.s.l.) to the Lares Baths (3,200 m.a.s.l.) in about three and a half hours.

There we have time to enjoy the pools then we continue our drive to Huaca Wasi where we camp and spend the night.

Huaca Wasi - Patacancha Village Community - Ollantaytambo

This day will be very beautiful because of the wonderful Andean landscapes and beautiful lagoons. After breakfast and after a 4 hour trek we will reach the Ipsay Pass (4400 m.a.s.l.) where we will see some peasant families who make a living from agriculture and weave fabrics with motifs inspired by their natural environment and their culture.

Then continue the hike until we reach the village of Patacancha (3650 m.a.s.l.) where the transport will be waiting for us to take us to the Community of Huilloc for lunch (pachamanca). After lunch we drive to the hotel in Ollantaytambo (2791 m.a.s.l.), this day we will walk about 6 to 7 hours.

Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu

You will be picked up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and transferred to Ollantaytambo Train Station (2791 m.a.s.l.), then you will travel by train crossing first the Urubamba Valley and then the Urubamba Canyon where we will find ourselves in a subtropical cloud forest with lush vegetation. At km 104 we get off the train, this is where the hike begins. The path goes up the mountain slope. We will see orchids, waterfalls, birds, maybe hummingbirds and butterflies. We will also have impressive views of the Urubamba Canyon.

After this climb we reach Wiñay Huayna, one of the most beautiful Inca sites. From here the trail is relatively flat for about 45 minutes and then steep again to Inti Punku (2720 m.a.s.l.), the place from which, when there is no fog, we see Machu Picchu from afar for the first time. From Inti Punku goes almost all the way down, in about an hour we will be in Machu Picchu (2400 m.a.s.l.), there we will take some photos and then go to the bus station and take the bus to Machu Picchu village also called Aguas Calientes (2040 m.a.s.l.).

We will stay in a hotel there, the next day we will visit Machu Picchu.

Visit of Machu Picchu and return to Cusco

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the hotel in Aguas Calientes to drive you to Machu Picchu. In Machu Picchu you will have the guided tour where you will see the beautiful Inca architecture and the arrangement of the sectors in the difficult topography of the place.

You will find that every point in Machu Picchu offers impressive views: that union of nature and architecture that makes the place so special and magical. After the guided tour, take the bus to Aguas Calientes.

If you wish you could have lunch (not included) in Aguas Calientes. Afterwards, your guide will accompany you to the train station, from where you will travel to Ollantaytambo. Agency staff will pick you up in Ollantaytambo train station and take you to your hotel in Cusco.
